Launched in December 2018, Wave Computing’s MIPS Open™ initiative aims to accelerate innovation around system-on-chip designs and expand the adoption of the MIPS RISC architecture by developers, ecosystem partners and academic communities. Under Wave Computing’s MIPS Open program, participants have full access to the most recent version of the 32-and-64-bit MIPS architecture (R6) free of charge – with no licensing or royalty fees. Additionally, registered MIPS Open program participants are licensed under Wave’s hundreds of existing global patents.
The MIPS Open initiative will be moderated by Wave Computing and the MIPS Open Advisory Board, which will include industry-leading OEMs, partners, universities and technology luminaries. The Advisory Board will moderate the governance, license and working group models for MIPS Open to help guide community-driven innovations, ensuring compatibility of implementations and preventing architectural fragmentation.
Wave Computing’s MIPS Open program helps assure existing MIPS customer that development tools, applications, or other value-added features and services that emerge from the MIPS Open ecosystem will be compatible with new implementations—providing peace of mind and investment protection.
