WAVE COMPUTING LAUNCHES MIPS OPEN INITIATIVE IN THE PHILIPPINES

 The 2018 launch of the Electronic Product Inclusive Innovation Center (EPIIC) by the Department of Science & Technology (DOST) and the Department of Trade & Industry (DTI) in 2018  was intended to help intensify more opportunities for Filipino electronic entrepreneurs to manufacture and design electronic and semiconductors products, aside from being an assembly and testing services for the global market. This government initiative is geared towards creating new product lines and new companies that will help promote import substitution to support the country’s GDP.

Wave Computing, a Silicon Valley-based company, is likewise supporting the initiative of the government by opening its MIPS-based solution to the electronic and semiconductor industry, universities, and Philippine government participants. This collaborative launch will feature as special guest DTI Secretary Ramon A. Lopez, who will do the Ceremonial Address.  An AI Center of Excellence based in BGC has been set up by Wave Computing to expand the development of data science and chip design in the country.

The collaboration expects to help speed up the development of technology innovation in the Philippines. From raw materials to skills of people, Filipinos shall take part in the progressive succession leading to the country’s industrialization. As part of the program of President Rodrigo R. Duterte, the initiative by both the government and private sectors shall provide inclusive growth through an innovative economy.
